Location:  Bucharest , Romania

Research and Development Station for Fruit Growing Băneasa, Bucharest - Romania (RSFG Băneasa) is a public institution under the coordination of the “Gheorghe Ionescu-Șișești” Academy, the national scientific authority in agriculture, food, veterinary sciences, forestry, and the environment, and administratively coordinated by the Fruit Growing Research and Development Institute Mărăcineni.

Mission
Th e research activity carried out by RSFG Băneasa focuses on studies related to new technologies for fruit tree and berry cultivation, as well as the production of high-quality plant reproductive material. The research results obtained are transferred to fruit growers operating in the station’s area of influence, covering the counties of Ilfov, Ialomița, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Călărași, Mehedinți, Dolj, and Prahova. RSFG Băneasa also aims to generate scientific results that contribute to enhancing the international visibility of Romanian fruit-growing research.

Research and Technological Innovation
RSFG Băneasa promotes and develops modern technological solutions for fruit tree cultivation, aligned with sustainability goals and climate adaptation. The main areas of activity include:
•        Hortivoltaics – integration of solar energy systems in orchards
•        IoT and digitalization – smart monitoring of microclimate and resource use
•        Sustainable plant protection – integrated phytosanitary practices
•        Smart irrigation – precision water and resource management
•        Precision agriculture and automation
•        Food traceability and safety
•        Bioeconomy and circular horticulture
In addition to research, the station provides services in technology transfer, consultancy, and experimental production.

Plant Breeding
With a strong tradition in fruit tree breeding, RSFG Băneasa focuses on thermophilic species such as apricot, peach, and nectarine. It is currently extending breeding efforts to mulberry (Morus spp.), using field hybridization and selection methods tailored to local conditions.

Location
A ll experimental plots are located at Moara Domnească, near Bucharest, serving as the primary site for research and innovation.

Collaboration and Partnerships
RSFG Băneasa is actively seeking collaborators and strategic partners in research, innovation, and fruit production to develop and implement joint projects. Collaboration areas include precision horticulture, IoT systems, water management, digital traceability, robotics, circular economy, and renewable energy integration.
