Location: Bucharest, Romania

Profile: Study of flame initiation, quenching and propagation in gaseous mixtures under deflagration regime by experimental and computational methods.

Activities: Research, training and consultancy.

Materials which can be characterized: Fuels (single or composite); fuel-oxidant mixtures, fuel-oxidant-inert mixtures.

Measured and calculated properties of flammable materials: (1) Lower and upper flammability limit; (2) Minimum Inert Concentration, Limiting Oxygen Concentration; (3) Quenching distances; minimum ignition currents; (4) Critical ignition temperatures; (5) Minimum ignition energy, for initiation with electric sparks (high voltage or low voltage) or with isothermally heated wires; (6) Characteristic parameters of closed vessel explosions: peak pressure, maximum rate of pressure rise, deflagration index, explosion time; (7) Propagation speed and normal burning velocity.

Computed properties of flammable materials: (a) Adiabatic flame temperatures; burned gas composition (in isobaric or isochoric combustion) and adiabatic explosion pressure (in isochoric combustion); (b) Normal burning velocity, propagation speed and temperature profile across a flame.

Fields where we may offer service: (i) Safety recommendations for laboratories and/or plants; (ii) Data necessary for the design of active protection devices (vents, bursting discs); (iii) Data necessary for the design of laboratory or industrial facilities where flammable and/or explosive mixtures may form; (iv) Training.
