Location: Bucharest, Romania

The Electrochemistry Group from the Institute of Physical Chemistry “Ilie Murgulescu” of the Romanian Academy conducts research activities grouped by fields and types of application, including synthesis and characterization of electrode materials, development of interdisciplinary research in surface functionalization, and studies of interface properties and structural changes in bulk materials and thin layers.
While earlier electrochemists were mainly interested in explaining various phenomena, modern research in the field is primarily devoted to finding new applications for electrochemistry and to understanding overall small scale processes that take place at the electrode surface. The activity of the Electrochemistry Group is centered, but not limited, on novel electrode materials with improved features for multifarious purposes, corrosion prevention and possible applications of molten salts and ionic liquids. The Group is involved in several national and international projects, including CEEX, PN II (PARTNERSHIPS and IDEAS), ERA-NET etc.
